Back on Track!

It's apparent that I update blogs like I write in my journal - about once a year? Ha!

It's been almost a whole year since my last post! So, I've got some major catching up to do. I can't really think of much, though. I'll just share a little of whatever my fingers type!

I am currently in a hotel with my brother, waiting for our parents to get back from gambling with the grandparents. Luckily, I'm the oldest and am making him be the one to call and order Chinese delivery. We both hate talking on the phone to strangers for some reason. As I'm typing this, Coby is on the phone with the Chinese place, who asks him his number to confirm the delivery. He rambles off the first 3 digits and then pauses, obviously having forgotten his own number. Instead of asking me to look it up on my phone, he panics and gives the lady a random number off the top of his head. AFTER hanging up, he asks me to look up his number (those first 3 digits he named weren't even his real number, either) and then calls the lady back to explain that he gave her the wrong number. Maybe we dislike talking on the phone because we both tend to make a lot of speech errors via technology. Heck, I make a lot of speech errors in person, too, so maybe it's just him.

Summer has gone great. There hasn't been much going on, except for work and hanging out with friends. Jordan's family did invite me to spend a weekend with them up at Park City, though! I will admit that I was nervous, but it ended up being a great time. We even went on this cool little GhostTours presentation that explained about the ghosts of Main St, Park City. Jordan and I have decided that when we retire, we're going to become ghost hunters. Or just skip college and medical school altogether and do that for a living. ;)

My family and I are in Vacaville, CA to visit our grandparents who we haven't seen in about a year. I love the California weather and it's great getting to see them. It's hard not being able to see family members as much as I used to when I was a little kid. So, I am really happy we were able to take this trip - it will end up in family memories, galore!

The only thing I would have changed is (warning: you may find this sickeningly mushy) to bring Jordan with us. We're about to hit our 2 year anniversary (August 29th, baby!) and I just wish he could have met Grandma and Grandpa - he would have gotten along great with them. I'm sure there will be another time, though. Possibly, graduation?? (If you're reading this, Grandma, that is a hint that I will be expecting you there. No exceptions!) ;)

Oh, but I do have quite a few things on my mind concerning this next school year. First things first: I decided not to do volleyball my senior year. Part of it is the fact that I'll be participating in the BHST program (a whole B-day full of college med classes) and don't want to jeopardize my GPA for fear of ruining chances at certain colleges. Another big part is that if I would have played, it wouldn't have been at all likely that I would have lettered. No matter how good I could have gotten, I would never have reached the level I needed to be in my coach's eyes. I do miss the sport (especially watching it on the Olympics!), but I don't miss the actual high school team aspect (though I do miss a few of the girls!).

The second thing is what to do with my schedule. Once I complete U.S. Gov. and Citizenship online, I will have all my credits. Since I have all my credits, I have a big question mark surrounding my decisions about English and math classes. I passed the AP Lang test with a 5, therefore earning the English credit and the ability to only earn humanities credit if I were to take and pass AP Lit. There are a few problems with taking AP Lit, though : 1) I'm frightened I won't have enough time to manage Lit AND BHST 2) I really, really, really dislike the teacher's teaching method 3) I think I might like the idea of taking Creative Writing instead a LOT better. Now, onto my math dilemma. Last year, I took 1050 and passed. My only options for a math class this year would be AP Calc or Statistics. Statistics does not seem fun (or worthwhile from other students' testimonies) and AP Calc would be a bear.

I think I'm just going to have to sit down with my counselor and find out what they think is best. Psyche. While the counselors are really good at switching classes around for me, none of them seem to really know how to help me make a decision. I need some guidance, not just a class switched. Grr.

Thirdly, college application time is looming. I'm a little nervous about applying out of state, but guess what? My  nerves are one of my barriers that have kept me from doing some things that could have been amazing for me! So, I'm taking the advice of a just-read book (Slammed by Colleen Hooover: "Barriers are meant to be pushed. That's what they're there for.") and going to apply at Yale (crossing fingers!), University of Chicago, Brown University, and the U of U. Might as well apply, get the results, and then fret and worry about it then. :)

I think I've complained enough for one post. Ooooooohhh, nope, I forgot one more thing! We're going to call this Lex's Specs from here on out! (My speculations on a current issue! Great word/rhyme play, right?)

Have you heard about the whole Chic-fil-a thing going on right now? It just seems like a complete PR scam to me. I understand the whole freedom of speech thing (the CEO's son ((president of the corporation)) gave a statement disagreeing with gay marriage), but it does go both ways. Therefore, pro-gay marriage people also have a right to speak out against that. Most conservative people are backing the corporation up, but not doing the research. (Which I did, because there's not much to do in a hotel, besides those things called swimming and working out.)

I'm fine with a CEO having his own views, but the corporation has donated anti-gay groups that support and act out hate crimes. Did you know that Chic-fil-a has the highest numbers of cases filed against them for firing people for "committing sin" or "to be a stay at home mom, where she should be"? While I can appreciate freedom of speech, I can't appreciate hate crimes against ANYBODY or discrimination (even if it is based on absurd reasoning!).

Alright, everybody. I think it's time to feed my current addiction! Dun dun dun.....the.......Olympics! Ha, have a great night! :)

Garbldy Gook.

So...let's see how much we can fit into one blog post, shall we? :)
Most recently, we had a family trip to my grandma's in California. Got to spend lots of time with the family and even visit the beach; the definition of a great trip, really. Pictures below:
Beach trip!

My mommy and me - everyone else was too chicken to get out of the car because it was too cold. It wasn't even that cold! ;)

We stopped at the craziest kite and candy shop. A little pricy, but hey, who wouldn't pay for a bit more color in their life?

And now the family part :
I love mah momma!

And I love my daddeh!

MORE PICTURES TO COME - off to work, I'll add as soon as I'm home.

After California, it was a few days of hanging out with Jordan, Charlie, Haley, and the fam before volleyball tryouts. I made the team and we're working hard to make this season AH-MAZING! Oh, and if anyone would like cookie dough, get in touch. We have a pretty cool fundraiser going on right now!
